The conversion of M/V Thai Ho was one of eight conversions purchased by the same customer. In the time period 1987 to 2002 Ta Ho Maritime Ltd in Taiwan purchased eight HW Carlsen loading and unloading systems in succession. Six of them were conversions of old ships and two of them were new cement carriers. These systems represent state of the art technology, developing from 300 tonnes per hour on the first ship to 1000 tonnes per hour on the largest ships.

M/V Thai Ho was the fourth ship to be converted and was ten years old at the time. The ship size was 18'000 dwt. HW Carlsen designed and supplied the cement handling equipment. The design of the cement handling equipment was onwards used in all of the remaining ships.

The ships built for Ta Ho Maritime Ltd are used on trade routes in Asia. Thanks to their high loading and unloading capacity they carry more than one million tonnes of cement per year.
